What is the purpose of having a goal?

What is the purpose of having a goal?
.
A sense of direction, a path of where you’re headed in your training or a specific aspect of it? A goal need not be everything but should give you a direction and path. The specifics of the goal can change, but its values give you a path to move ahead.
.
By setting clearly defined goals in your training, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals, and you’ll see forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long grind. You will also raise your self-confidence, as you recognize your own ability and competence in achieving the goals that you’ve set.
.
Top-level athletes in all fields set goals. Setting goals gives you long-term vision but short-term motivation.
.
Set a goal and COMMIT to it. Set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound goals that motivate you. Plan the steps you must take to realize your goal, and cross off each one as you work through them.
.
It’s not about any single accomplishment. It is about the cycle of refinement and continuous improvement. Ultimately, it is your commitment to the process that will determine your progress. Committing to the process is what makes the difference.
.
Part of having goals is to measure your success. Remember, a goal is not always meant to be achieved, but it must be measured. That’s the only way you know whether you’re moving ahead or not.
.
“The point of goals isn’t to achieve them. The point is who you become on the way to them.”
.
A goal is not always meant to be reached, it can be about how you deal with failure to achieve those goals, and how much you learn from the experience. Failure to achieve goals tells us many things. But mostly it is about the approach you’ve taken.
.
Keep the process going by regularly reviewing and updating your goals. And remember to take time to enjoy the satisfaction of achieving your goals when you do so. 👊🥋
.
“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.” – Michelangelo
