“Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them.”

If you are going to master a new skill, you have to accept that for the first few times you try it, you’re probably going to get it wrong. You’re going to fail, you may even be embarrassed. You just have to accept that.
.
Martial arts are complicated – if what we are doing were easy, it wouldn’t be worth the time to learn. For some it may look easy because those students that practice often, well, they’ve done it hundreds of times.
.
There’s an old cliche – sorry, but it’s relevant – that a black belt is nothing more than a white belt (or any other color) who didn’t quit.
.
Do you think that the best martial artists today, or your instructor, senior students; or the founders of karate, – started out as advanced and capable students?……. No, of course not. They ALL made their mistakes. They would fully admit they have a lot of learning to go through, and still make mistakes even now. And this is true for any art.
.
So take heart. Expect to make mistakes, that’s primarily where you learn. You should only focus on what your instructor tells you to focus on, and don’t worry about the rest.
.
When you do one thing right, you’ll get to correct something else later. Don’t try to correct everything at once, or nothing will get done. Always go home with the expectation of doing at least one thing right; ….. not everything right.
.
But don’t make excuses for not getting it right. What matters is that you TRY. Sometimes we use excuses simply because we do not want to commit to something, or maybe because we are lazy and like to procrastinate instead of doing something.
.
You need to understand that the more you use excuses, the harder it will be to get things done. They become your new reality, one where you are too afraid to try.
.
So stop blaming others and take responsibility for your actions. It’s no one’s fault that things are not working the way you want them to. Take responsibility instead of dwelling on your mistakes.
.
Remember that when you make a mistake and then make an excuse for it, you have made two mistakes….. ??
